Programme

Look back through our programme from when we first opened in 1982 in our Barbican Guide archive

Over nearly four decades, the Barbican has hosted and developed innovative work in theatre, music, film, photography, dance, visual arts, and other uncategorisable forms.

The London Symphony Orchestra has been in residence since the Centre’s opening, the Royal Shakespeare Company is now in its second period of residence after a time away, and many other companies and groups – including Complicite, Boy Blue Entertainment and Kronos Quartet – have strong creative relationships here.

Aside from a few last minute cancellations, the Barbican Guides, printed and given out for free on a monthly basis since the programme began, are a unique record of everything scheduled in the Centre since we opened in 1982.

From the Archive: Barbican Guides

As we start to build a Barbican Archive, we uncovered every edition of the Barbican Guide. Documenting the range of events we've hosted since we first opened in March 1982, browse the first year of our monthly guide.
